Howdy! regarding usage of Velocity points, does anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong? I have been searching hundreds of dates for the next 12 months on MEL/SYD/BNE - LAX flights and can't seem to locate any premium/business tickets out of the 300k to 600k points range one way.
I could have sworn I saw business reward seats at some stage for 95000 odd points.
Have point requirements really gone up that much or am I missing something obvious.
I found I had the same probably for you, seems to be next to none of that fare class available. I ended up booking confirmed business. There used to be a lot available in the past, they must of lowered their allocation.
Thanks mate, yeah I remember seeing lots of very reasonable business reward fares...now as far as I can see, thre are literally zero on there for the next 12 months. Hope they add some more on there soon!
The points in the 300K - 600K are like "any seats", which means you earn points on them.
These days, you are lucky to find a business reward seat on any flights to the USA - you can find one or two premium seats. Economy reward seats are generally available.
It used to be so easy with Virgin, now it's impossible.
OK The first thing you need to do is look ONE WAY. Then look for the possible retunr date, also ONE WAY. When you have a lsit of what might be available, put those dates together as return trips. I called Velocity about this a few months back when i was going to Europe. IF you look for return trips, the system does not show seats unless both directions of your search are available. I asked why this was the case and could not get a satisfactory response.
Hmmmm havent tried the one way search so much - but I was looking for SYD-LAX- SYD and searched literally MONTHS and saw none of the reasonable Reward Fares. Its far far more limited than in previous years when aIve been able to secure reward seats many times.
Hope they release some seats otherwise im forced to fly Qantas using Cathay Asia Miles (much cheaper to book that way) but Im no fan of Qanats!

A possible alternative is to transfer your Velocity points to SQ and redeem with UA.
