I believe there is now an airside walkway connecting TBIT and T4, so clear customs and security at either terminal and make your way to the QF lounge at TBIT. Just remember to leave extra time to walk to T4 from the lounge. Others could advise the walk time between terminals.
Thank you very much upperdeck! I was thinking about this for such a long time. So just to be clear, I could access the QF lounge (which is the oneworld alliance shared lounge, correct?) if I am flying with AA 773 business class?
And just one more question: Between AAdvantage and Alaska mileage plan, if I all roughly got the same amount of points (or mileage), which is better for buying an AA economy class ticket and upgrading to business?
You can only upgrade to business on an AA marketed and operated flight using AAdvantage miles. The required amount is 25K miles + 350 USD with available C space on the SYD-LAX route. Please keep in mind that most long-haul flights such as AA72/73 are difficult to secure upgrade space at time of booking. Waitlisting is requred and factors such as elite status and booking timestamps are involved.
Alaska miles cannot be used to upgrade any flight on any airline other than Alaska marketed and operated flights. You can use Alaska miles to redeem one-way/round-trip awards on several airlines including Qantas where a QF business class one way award on the USA-AUSTRALIA route is 55k miles. Alaska Mileage Plan is working SLOWLY on adding AA redemption awards and amounts for the US-AU route as AA has only been flying this route since December 2015.
The T4-TBIT connector is open. It takes ~3-4 minutes to walk between the terminals. It opens next to the QF F lounge in TBIT and near gate 41 in T4.
Business class on a oneworld operated and marketed flight will get you access to the AA Admirals Club in T4 or the QF/Oneworld J lounge in TBIT. Oneworld emerald status will get you access to the AA Flagship Lounge in T4 (within the Admirals Club) or the QF F lounge in TBIT (if status is from AA, F lounge access requires flight be departing North America).
