Cathay Pacific to launch Hong Kong-Newark service in March 2014

Cathay Pacific will add Newark to its network map in March 2014 with a daily service between Hong Kong and the New Jersey city, which lies just across the Hudson River from the heaving heart of New York.

CX teased a new US new route last week but suggested that Boston, Miami and Seattle were also on the cards.

Newark will get a three-class Boeing 777-300ER with Cathay's latest business, premium economy and economy seats.

Flight CX890 will depart Hong Kong at 5pm to reach Newark at 9pm that day, with the return leg CX899 out of Newark at 1.50am (!) to reach Hong Kong at 5.40am the next day.

Many business travellers consider Newark (airport code EWR, and also known as Newark Liberty) a popular alternative to New York's JFK airport – especially if you're heading to downtown Manhattan, such as the financial area around the World Trade Center or Wall Street and the lower West Side below 33rd Street.

This will be the fifth US city for Cathay Pacific after Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

Will this be longer than QFs SYD-DFW run?  I seem to remeber SQs flight to New York being the longest when they flew it...although I realise Singapore is further south.  It comes as another great option to New York for those Aussies not on the east coast.

SYD - DFW is the third longest flight in the world (based on distance). HKG - EWR is currently also operated by United, and is the 10th longest flight... or so Wikipedia tells me anyway.

I say that morning flights will be better. Cathay is doing good attracting tourists but slightly forgetting about its loyal Hong Kong-ese passengers (like me!)
