Just flew back from LAX QF12 787. I was in J smaller cabin at the back. Noticeable amount of foot traffic from PE using the J class toilets throughout the flight, which meant queues for those in J wanting to use the toilet etc. Was a bit irritating given the price difference between tickets etc, but I haven't flown on the 787 before - is this standard?
Sadly, that's pretty normal behaviour since Qantas removed the curtains, and staff don't do anything about it.
More significantly, have you noticed how tiny the bathrooms are on the 787? They're significantly smaller than those on the 747, and it's now quite a challenge to change into PJs.
You're correct that it is standard, Sydney Travels.
There's one toilet in front of the main business cabin where 30 pax are seated.
Then there are two more toilets between the main biz cabin and the small biz cabin (which has another 10 pax). Those two are also shared with the 28 pax in PE behind.
Phil, the curtains have not been removed between PE and biz, or at least they were still there for the flight I was on a few days ago. You may be thinking of domestic. On the 787, the PE passengers are permitted to come through even when the curtain is closed. If there's any doubt about it, the red / green light in PE indicating whether a bathroom is vacant is linked to those bathrooms.
Clearly the design would be better if the two toilets were between the PE and biz cabin so PE passengers didn't need to traffic through (I presume that's a hard design feature though). That's why I tend not to choose the small biz cabin when flying in J. By my money, the best J seats for minimal disturbance on the 787 are in rows 3-7
I just flew PER-FCO in the rear business cabin and didn't find it too difficult to get access. At the beginning and end of the flight it's a bit hard with most pax changing in or out of PJs.

They are small, but seemed more user friendly than the ones on A380 QF11?

I just flew on a Finair A350 and that certainly put into perspective how small the QF bathrooms are!
