I fly PE a lot on QF9 and QF1 to London. My biggest tip is in regards to food and wine. Usually the seafood options on those flights are not great. I didn’t feel well the next day once. For wine, choose the Australian reds. They are relatively high quality compared to American and European airlines. The QF service is phenomenal as usual
I prefer the bulkhead (row 20) for that little bit of extra legroom
Agree, and to avoid having someone recline into your lap. If you aren't in a bulkhead row, make sure you use the calf/foot rest as intended - quite comfortable (albeit cramped). I don't bother with the food/wine (even in business) ... eat/drink in the lounge and use the flight for work/movies/sleep.
QF9 is horrendous in PE. I've always maintained that PE is the worst part of the aircraft. You have some expectation of comfort, which is always misplaced. At least if you're in economy you know it is going to be ghastly and can prepare yourself. Much better to take your cash and spend it on a business class product offered by one of Qantas' competitors.
So @RD ADL, how did you find it? As a normal J traveler as well, I recently did PE from DFW to SYD and was pleasantly surprised. Probably from all the negative reviews I read I was expecting a disaster, but with a curtained-off mini cabin of 3 rows and a few empty seats due to not being able to fly at full capacity for weight reasons, I had no issue. The seat was reasonable and the service and food fine. I had a bulkhead with empty middle seat and legroom was no issue. Not sure I'd like the 2nd or 3rd row with a reclining seat into me.

Flying QF9 in PE this evening. Not flown PE before as normally in J. Anyone have any tips for a PE newbie? Food, wine, service etc
Cheers!

My tip is simple: Don't do it.
