Found cheap flights Sydney - Vienna return for $1620 over Xmas. Are Austrian Airlines safe financially to travel with? Some indications hint they are financially stable at the moment but no strong sources.

Pay with a credit card, enjoy your trip. Any airline could go from OK to broke in six months.

OS is a great airline and a subsidiary of Lufthansa, you will have nothing to worry about (no more or less financially stable than say QF). I take it you will fly TG to BKK and take OS from there to VIE?
Great fare for over the Chrismas period btw!

Thanks KG. I couldn't beleive the price when I saw it. Quick connection times too of 1hr 20min and 2hr 10min on the return.
Yes, TG to BKK and TG to SYD on the way back. Just hoping TG upgrade their aircraft to include personal AVOD by Christmas.

I was of the impression all TG flights ex. Australia had AVOD... I know when TG had the A346 in 2011 this was the case, as is BNE with a B773 (but MEL can be hit & miss with a mix of B772 & B773). It is unfortunate that TG are yet to upgrade the old B744's.

Not all of the TG birds have AVOD, there is a very handy PDF that can be found on the TG website showing what planes fly where and what they offer in terms of passenger comfort.
TG is however pretty far with upgrading their 744 with new First class semi suites and AVOD in economy and their oldest 744's are almost phased out (I believe there is only one flying around, soon to be retired as well).
