I've been reading articles and user comments on places like Tripadvisor that suggest that some of the hotels offered with the Dubai Connect service verge on feral.
I've placed a request through my Qantas booking but am now considering cancelling it in favour of just hanging in the Emirates A380 lounge which is truly stellar imho. Great food, showers, free internet, lots of quiet corners to grab a kip. Probably better appointed than the stopover hotel supplied.
He enjoyed his stay, from what I have heard. The rooms are nice (better than the Le Meridien) and I believe dinner and breakfast were very adequate / tasty. Since the hotel is next to the airport you could try it out, if it is not to your liking you can easily head back to the nice F lounge.
We got put up in that hotel when we missed our connection due to the late arrival into Dubai. Hotel was good and the staff couldn't do more than enough to help us.

A friend flew EK in business last week and was put up at the Al Bustan Rotana which is right near the airport.
