Evening - after some advice here... I'm about to start significant travel into various parts of Asia (Hanoi and BK). Looking at the ease of travel and everything that lines up for me Singapore Airlines is a better choice. I'm also a bit over Qantas - along with their insane business class pricing to BK and Hanoi.
I also do a fair bit of domestic travel - so keen for tips on the best way to setup a Singapore air FF account and or Virgin Australia. If most of my travel for the foreseeable future is Virgin / Singapore - How should I set this up to make the most of points and status etc. From Jan I will be in BK / Singapore every 8 weeks.
If you're based in Australia I'd go for Virgin. Their individual partnerships are a bit more complex and needs some attention, but they cover quite some relevant airlines from an Australia perspective: Singapore, United, Air Canada, but also Etihad & Qatar.
But if you intend to fly beyond Asia and/or with more Star Alliance, then Singapore. As you won't get benefits with Lufthansa, Thai, and others.

How about Virgin membership and a Star Alliance credit card? That opens Star Gold status after 60k annual spend.
