Does anyone know if any Australian airline plans to implement inflight wifi anytime in the future? With inflight wifi I mean connectivity to use services such as facebook, imessage, and other important services. Not just wifi streaming for Audio/Visual.

Severely doubt it. Australia doesn't have the ground-based infrastructure for an affordable service, and satellite is just too expensive. VA/QF wouldn't burn the CAPEX required to introduce it - as they only compete with each other unlike the US where many domestic airlines fight for the same routes. And call me crazy, but it's nice to have a break while in the air.

Call me crazy too - I give a damn about internet on board. Though Skype would be nice, I do not believe that it will be an option even if they do WiFi. So only emails/SMS. Trully give a damn.

YMMV though

Australian Business Traveller announced that Virgin Australia would debut inflight wifi in October. I remember reading in another website that Richard Branson said Virgin Australia may launch a wifi service, similar to the one offered in Virgin America, when he visited Perth to launch VARA recently.

That announcement was based around the delivery of IFE content to Virgin-supplied devices and passengers' own devices.

There has not been any announcements regarding inflight wifi for the purposes of internet access while in flight on domestic routes within Australia.
