I can't figure out how to edit my question, anyway, to take an extra bag from Australia to NZ on Qantas in economy, without status, do you have to pay by kg now? I saw $55 per 5kg on their website, that would make a $250 extra? In that case it would be better to use that money to get a premium economy ticket on Virgin that includes 2 bags and still save $100.
