Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has had any success with making an Any Seat Award booking with Qantas over the phone since they removed the ability to book the "lower cost" Any Seat Awards online recently?
I have tried 4 times over the past 2 days, calling the Premium Desk and the Frequent Flyer desk twice each, and getting a completely different answer each time.
In the past, you could obtain a booking from MEL to SYD in business class for 16,000 pts plus around $80.
In the past 2 days, I have been told by different people:
1. I would have to use the website as the call centre can't book these fares (not true!)
2. The points booking would cost 290,000 pts
3. The points booking would cost 16,000 pts plus $1090
4. The points booking would cost 16,000 pts plus $280
and the FINALLY managed to get someone who made the booking for 16,000 pts plus $108
And then I needed to make a change to the booking, and the representative argued that I would need to pay a $40 phone service fee to make the change - which I argued should be waived and they finally conceded.
It's been a terrible experience!
Has anyone been making these bookings over the phone with success?

Do you mind me asking - are you checking for Classic Award availability first to identify the "lower cost" availability and then making the call?
