Adding my vote to the 'not enough time' chorus. 30 minutes before takeoff is not enough time Charlie. 45 minutes is tight but okay assuming there are no hold-ups. But put it this way, would you rather arrive 20 minutes early and stroll onto your QF flight or 5 minutes late and miss it? Easy question I think.

Mate, there is absolutely NO WAY you should do that, there isn't enough time! But if you do decide to do it, just remember the amount of people that have commented on this post, who all agree, and if you do miss your flight, told you so!!

Hey, if anyone's catching QF11 in a few weeks, be sure to print out a copy of this thread to show to the GAs, just so they know not to hold the flight if one passenger is running late.

I'll go against the grain here and suggest that you'd be perfectl okay getting back at SYD International at 12:30, infact, 12:40 might work too. I've gone from plane to kerbside in under 10 minutes so obviously doing it the other way around must also work just as efficiently.
And I look forward to your rant on Qantas' facebook page when you tell them how you missed your flight because some random internet stranger suggested you'd be fine giving yourself 35 minutes from kerbside to boarding gate.

If I were you I would fly in from Adelaide the night before and have an excellent night out in Sydney and rearrange your departure day to make sure you're at the airport by 11.30am/12pm. Being relaxed when flying long haul is key to an enjoyable trip

CharlieG, you have already suggested a solution in you original post: take VA1 and buy yourself the extra hour or so. Apart from substantially lowering the risk of missing the flight (and possibly needlessly delaying it), that might calm the bristling angst your post has unleased!
