Travelling from Sydney to HK in business this Wed (18 Sept) and was hoping someone might have some tips on which flight will have a better plane/seats. Will probably try the buy business get first with QF but thought I should consult the knowledgeable folks here first.
I have to travel on this date so will pre-empt the suggestion of travelling Thurs to get A380..

+1. Nice bed, CX service, lounges at HKG, choice of flights.

Indeed. I thought that was a no brainer.
Frequency and consistency of product is key when connecting to asia. Until Qantas realises that it cannot hope to compete affectively.
How can you claim to be connected to the region when your national airline views the asian market as an after thought and seeks to establish presence through low-cost joint ventures. Like seriously!

Is QF that bad on this route? I did Cathay Bris-HK in March and wasn't impressed at all. Plane seemed very old.

It's alright, but they've got a slightly poorer business offering - fully-flat but not 100% aisle access, service is seasonal - and a much poorer schedule of daily rather than quadruple daily.

Try flying with Virgin Atlantic. There Upper Class product is fun and funky. If you prefer to fly with Qantas & wantt to use the bsuiness get first promotion on the return from HKG and ensure that you book a weekend retun with the A380.

CX is the better option if schedule is taken into account.

Schedule up is mostly day flights for CX, QF and VS, although CX have one overnight option.
Coming back is the big difference, with only CX offering a day flight option.
