Correct, announced yesterday on their corporate website plus a direct flight DFW - PVG in the northern summer 2014.

I wonder if there is actually that much demand for direct flights between these cities. When I worked in Dallas for 2 months, I was the only Asian person there, except for one student I saw at the university.
Unlike SYD - DFW, this isn't about getting AA's connections to the rest of North America - since directionally it doesn't make sure. CX already has direct flights to SFO, LAX, JFK, ORD, and a few others.

This flight is all about connections. DFW itself wouldn't be a huge destination from HKG, but gives access to more markets than AA's LAX/ORD/JFK hubs. China-South America traffic can be routed via DFW too.

I think their network coverage will be further enhanced by offering the HKG and PVG flights from DFW, giving their customers more choices to fly to Asia and connect with AA's Asian partners.
It's a shame this is coming after AAdvantage tickets became sector-based rather than end-to-end mileage-based, as these would be great with QF7 :P

Given the success United have had on their new Houston to Beijing route I see no reason why DFW to HKG shouldn't be successful as well.

Correction, it is Air China who operate the PEK - IAH route, not United.

American Airlines is introducing flights from Dallas-Fort Worth to Hong Kong. The flight will be operated by their Brand New Boeing 777-300ERs and it will start sometime in June 2014. It justs needs regulatory approval.
