I need to travel SYD-HKG in a month. If I want to go Qantas First, do I have to travel on an A380 day or can I travel First in a 747? I was under the impression all the 747s have had their First removed and replaced with Business. Any clarification would be appreciated. Many thanks
If the OP wants to fly F, they should indeed fly on an A380 day, but not just for the risk of no F, but more about the risk of the old F. But yes, stick to an A380 day.
I believe the schedule is improving to more A380s on the HKG service - it's somewhere on the site.
Just a travel tip: In the A380, you get direct aisle access, 1" more in bed length than JCL, 2.5" more in bed width than JCL. Avoid Row 1 all seats and Row 5 A/K.
Thanks, KG. However, how will it work once all the 747s have been retired? Presumably A380 will become a daily flight once they have more A380s delivered to them, however, these will have no First as this article (http://www.businesstraveller.com/news/qantas-to-remove-first-class-on-747s) suggests. Key quote being, "On its A380s Qantas will retain first class on twelve aircraft (existing fleet and those being delivered up to 2012), but will reduce the number of seats in its business cabin, and increase the premium economy and economy offering. The remianing eight A380s due to be delivered from 2012 will feature a three-class cabin with no first class."
Therefore we'll go from daily First to Kong Hong, albeit two of these being 747s, down to five?
Definetely fly on an A380 day! The difference between the 2 is miles apart!! I have never had such a good sleep on an Asia - SYD leg than I did on the A380 F.
It would seem logical that Qantas are refurbing the 747's they use on SYD-HKG route using an A380 cover for them while they refurb them into a 3 class cabin. I would have thought this was a good route for them for utilisation of the F cabin so I wonder if they will keep this route as having a greater majority of 4 class cabin flights. I can only assume that given their alliance with Emirates that they are also likely to deploy the majority of the 12 A380's with F on the SYD - DXB route.

Check Seatguru next time.
In your case, only the A380-800 has First. So avoid Tuesday and Wednesday.

Not true, 747 on HKG route still has old F. Not all of the 747 planes have been rejigged by QF.

SYD - HKG is A380 from Thursday - Monday. Only Tuesday and Wednesday are now operated with a 747.
However, between January 2 and March 3 the A380 is running everyday.

Guys, the 747 that pky the HKG route still have old F, so you can fly F on the 747 although it is a much inferior product obviously.

Check out this site for a review of old F on the HKG-SYD route:
