Not free i dont think. You have to book a particular fare or buy a pass to be able to get the internet access with any one airline.

well i suppose the plane needs to use satalite connection to get the wi fi, which I image could be quite costly?

I would imagine it would be. They would still make money on it with the price of the fees that they charge.

well that depends what the figures are for the designated period. if it was floating in the high 90's % well then there would be great reason, because margin would gain benitifial profits bearing losses made up in previous sectors of the measuring period. Providing of course the prices of satalite use didn't increase drasctically. Im getting out of my depth a bit, here! Is something we could start of Mr. AA?

I flew Norwegian last year. They had free wifi on their 737 aircraft in Europe.

Hong Kong Airlines have free wifi on their new business-class-only flights to LGW - apparently you are given a prepaid card on boarding which gives you a certain amount of capacity. Of course, over and above that free limit, you have to pay
I know BA have wifi on their LCY-JFK service, but I am not sure if it is free or not
Doesn't help much on Australian flights, I know!

Many airlines give their first class passengers free wifi. EK for example.
