Hi. I live in Hong Kong as said in my profile, and is there any news that NZ will be flying the 787-9 or 777-300ER to Hong Kong? I fly Economy, so I'd prefer the former and the 777-200 over NZ's 777-300ER, but these aircraft are really looking dated.
During 2014 Air NZ is having a fleet re-structure.
B747-400: Are leaving the fleet (currently on AKL-SFO run)
B777-300ER: Serving the AKL-LAX-LHR and the two new deliveries will fly the AKL-SFO route (and some trans tasman)
B777-200ER: Serving the HKG and YVR routes (as well as some trans tasman). The cabin will undergo a re-fit with the new 773 and 789 economy seating (unfortunately I would say 3-4-3 config), the 789 Premium Economy and 773 and 789 Business Premier herringbone layout.
B787-9: Initially deployed on AKL-PER, PVG, and NRT routes. (in addtion to the short-term promotional legs CHC-AKL)
B767-300ER: Replaced by the 787-9
The internaional A320's will stay the same with the domestic A320's replacing the older 737-300's
Air NZ's announced plans for the 787 are to operate on Perth, Shanghai, Tokyo at first, followed by Papeete and Honolulu. Given the current delivery schedule, that will keep the fleet occupied through till late 2015.
There is virtually no chance the 777-300ERs will go on the Hong Kong route (they are dedicated to the LAX and soon the SFO routes), but the 777-200ERs are to be refurbished starting mid 2014. The exact configuration has not been announced, but it is likely to mean the refreshed Business Premier product, the new Premium Economy that is to be installed on the 787s, and Economy also similar to the 787s with the Skycouch and the 3-4-3 configuration seen on the 777-300ERs.
Given the performance of the route, I'd expect the 777-200ERs to remain on the Hong Kong route for at least a couple more years.

So no, the 777-200 will remain on the HKG route.
