They run that promotion very rarely. I've probably only seen it once in the past 2-3 years.

You are right Peter, I remember seeing it two years ago. In early July though they do tend to have a reasonable sale to I guess fill some forward capacity. I have bought business fares of $5400 travelling BNE-SYD-DFW-MIA-CUN-DFW-BNE and also this year BNE-SYD-LAX-SAN-DFW-LGA and then retunr via EWR -LAX-SYD-BNE for $6200. all up for both fares approx 50k FF points and anywhere between 600-750 status credits as some of the AA flights counted as "first".
From what I remmber the 2 for 1 fares were still between 8-10 k depending on your final destination and stop overs.
