Can somebody please explain how Qatar manage their first and business class? I'm thinking of trying them out on QF points, but it seems that there is only business class to Doha from Australia, but a first product available to London, etc . Is the first product the same as the busines product, just rebranded on some routes, or it there more to this...?
They're all seats that turn into beds. While one gives direct aisle access (both if you travel on the 787 or the A380) but they're both good products. Nothing more that I can say.
The 777s that fly into Australia are two class (business and cattle). Between Doha and some other destinations there is an additional first class. I can't tell you what first class is like, but the business on the 777 is very good, but in a 2-2-2 configuration. On the 787 it's 1-2-1.
On the A330 and A340 between Doha and some European ports, the business class is a bit more squeezy, with angled lie-flat beds instead of the full lie flat. Service is very good in all aircraft.
Forgot to mention - in the Doha premium transit terminal there are separate first and business areas. Business is really nice, but first is (allegedly) quite luxurious.
