777s are better - they have the new "almost angled lie flat" seats whereas the A330s have the blue/green seats. Of course, the A330 has more chance of upgrading to the new seat.
Ah. It depends - both aircraft have two different types of seats (the old product and the newer shell product). The old product wins in comfort but the new product wins in entertainment (StudioCX is on the "new" shell one, if I am not mistaken the entertainment system on the old seats are just looped movies). Of course there will be chances of the A330 being upgraded to international Y, where you get both advantages.
It varies too much to tell. You're going into the brutal lottery of CX's regional aircraft. You can get anything from a brand-new 777 all the way down to an A330 so old it has fixed-wing headrests in Economy.
No worries. I got stuck with the oldest A330 I've seen in my life when I flew Penang to Hong Kong and back in July. Those fixed headrests suck. Seriously, the damned things made me crave to go back to a Qantas 767 without Q Streaming. Just be prepared for the worst Economy cabin you can imagine, and be pleasantly surprised if it turns out to be new.
I will say this, though: even though the movies might be as interesting as drying paint and the seat might be stiffer than grandfather's starched trousers, the service and catering will still be up to Cathay standard.

I mean the international A330 seat.

Thanks for your quick reply. I will be in Y though, and will not be upgrading cabins. Is there a substantive difference between the two hard products?

Thanks for the comparison. Hopefully on such a relatively short flight the difference in comfort won't be too material...

No, it won't. What matters most on these short flights is that - ummm... you get a seat. What route are you flying?

Sorry forgot to mention! SIN-HKG and vv. Effective flying time of ~3.5 hours.
I suppose it just boils down to which flight timings suit best?

You will have a chance of getting the new seats, especially if you're on an A330.

Argh that's what I was afraid of! I guess it's just going to be an aircraft lottery then.
Thanks for chiming in.

Best of luck with the lottery.

Yikes. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed - worse come to worst it'll be a quick 3.5 hour flight then it's straight to the lovely Four Seasons hotel!
