Sorry - thought I would be prompted for more details... I have an award booking witih CX in J flying from BNE to HKG next week. I've booked a separate ticket from HKG to TPE connecting an hour or so after the arrival in HKG. I was wondering whether CX staff in BNE will be able to check me in all the way through to TPE given that the award booking is in J and the separate booking is in Y? Thanks!

You shouldn't have any problems, esp considering you are flying in J. I've even had MH and CX on separate award tickets checked through to end destination. The only issue you may encounter is the 3rd party contract check in agent not wanting to or not knowing how to do it (esp across partner airlines) - so simply ask for the supervisor if you run into any trouble.

Jyh189,
To preempt any dramas at check in, call CX well before your departure date and link the two bookings.
Provide them with the PNR and ticket number of both bookings. CX agents are generally very good at this - they are technically literate unlike the agents of other airlines, who require much prompting.
If you are having trouble getting this sorted by the Australia based agents, call Hong Kong - I've never had any reason to be disappointed by their customer service and technical knowledge.

Thank you jchen and TheRealBabushka! Those were helpful responses :)
I had tried calling CX in Australia to link the bookings, but the agent told me I would need to do it at check-in and ask for baggage to be checked through. I hadn't thought of calling CX in Hong Kong - will try that! Otherwise, if still no luck, I will just ask at the airport.
