My travel agent has done a soft booking, am paying in full in a few days, and when I went to select my seats online I noticed that the seating configuration is 2-3-2 and in rows 23 - 26. I checked the seat maps at qantas.com, and none of the 6 configurations for the 747 - 400 show Premium Ecconomy in a 2-3-2 configuration, or in rows 23-26? Has any one who has flown this route able to comment?

It's very uncommon, but there are ocassionally Kangaroo configured aircraft that pop up on the route (so far only twice this year, though). In this situation, yes Premium Economy pax fly in J seats with W service...
How far out is your booking? If it's in the next few weeks then you can probably rely on the seatmap you're seeing, otherwise there's a strong chance that the aircraft will change closer to the date of the flight.

The booking is in 5 weeks. Also I check and my partner is flying back a few days after me and the seat map for her flight matches the 3 class 747 - 400 (non-ER) premium ecconomy cabin. Where as mine shows the J cabin of a Kangaroo configured aircraft in both directions.
I guess I got lucky, certainly not going to complain! QF premium food is closer to Business than Ecconomy as it is! That combined with the fantastic J sky skybed is a pretty good deal!

Flew SYD - NRT just couple weeks ago and it has only 3 classes: Business, Premium and Economy. Business class has the Skybed, but it is the angled flat bed. From what i can recall, i think the Premium seatings are 2-4-2
The planes are also not the recently refurbished one either. so it was kinda old :(
