What really is the best way to spend my QFF points?

Buy Business Class from Sydney to LAX or Dallas with cash, and use points to upgrade to first.  This is 45,000 OW or 90,000 return.  I've done this several timnes and never missed out on First.  It's a nice treat for a long flight.
