Has there been any news on whether Virgin Australia have an upgrade planned of the seats on their long haul aircraft?

I wish, but no. So far all they had was a refresh.

If they did this in 2012, I would assume they would need to a get a few years of out it.

No news since the 777s got their refresh but I think it would be safe to assume that it'll be another few years until any changes, given the costs of refurbishing a 777 are huge and their product is 'new' and not bad.

Or if you are referring to the older A330s, XFA and XFB, well XFA has just come back from a spell for maintenance, and no changes to the interior

I think they were looking to retire the 777s in 2017/2018 and are looking at 787s or A350s. I don't think there will be any major product change until those aircraft enter the fleet.

That's a fast retirement for 777-300ERs.

Yes, but thats very much in keeping with VAs fleet renewal plan. A maximum life of ten years to keep the average fleet age down, and very doable when you only lease the aircraft.

I do seem to remember sometime last year VA invited some of the "public" to a get together to get their views on what they would like to see in their seats in terms of design. Not saying that means a new product is going to be seen very soon, but it does show that they are thinking about the next generation seats.

Thanks for all the comments folks. I have never flown VA's long haul business product.  I always choose one of their partners due to therre better business product for long haul.  Given the fact Qantas will introduce the new business class suite on coast to coast I thought VA would have something in the pipeline to really up the anti across their product, as JB normally never misses a trick to take a direct hit at AJ and Qantas......
