I'm Qantas Silver, which allows me 42kg (instead of usual 30kg) on QF operated flights. When flying on Emirates, do I also get the extra 12kg allowance?
I'll be flying the following sequence, checking in in Sydney for the whole thing:
SYD-HKG on Qantas;
then HKG-DXB-AMM on Emirates.

You better call them and ask. I do not think that it is QF operated flights, but rather QF marketed flights. In other words does not matter what hardware it is – it is relevant who sold you ticket. So if you have Qantas ticket, I am sure answer is “yes”, if Emirates one “not sure”. Call them (whoever sold you ticket) and tell us :-)

BTW why SYD-HKG-DXB instead of direct SYD-DXB?

Good question Serg:
It's a Points Redemption journey, and a good value one at that: just 56,000 pts for SYD-HKG-DXB-AMM.
Compared to the 65,000 we'd usually pay for SYD-BKK-AMM on QF and RJ, or to the 68,000 you'd pay for SYD-DXB-AMM on QF/EK, it's a SERIOUS BARGAIN. I actually couldn't believe I'd found it.
Happy to do some HK shopping between flights for the points I'm saving!

From QF website:
Additional Checked Baggage Allowance
You receive an additional 12kg of checked allowance, on top of the allowance you receive as part of your fare.

Yes - You are entitled to the 12 Extra KG's of Luggage on ALL EK Flights, regardless if a QF or EK Flight. As part of their Alliance, it applies to all flights. See Below:
Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club members
"Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club member allowances apply to travel on Qantas and Qantaslink jet operated flights with a QF flight number on your ticket, excluding services to and from Lord Howe Island, Olympic Dam and Mount Hotham. For tickets purchased from 26 February 2013, these additional allowances will also apply to Emirates operated ("EK") flights between and within Europe, The Middle East, North Africa and Asia, and Australia when travelling under either QF or EK flight numbers. Note: These benefits are not cumulative. For example, whether you are a Silver Qantas Frequent Flyer, a Qantas Club member or both, the same allowance applies."
