Qantas - new 737-800 (with AVOD in economy). I understand that they are being used randomly around the network. Now that they have quite a few I would have thought they would would be using them on longer routes such as Melb- Darwin etc. Does anyone know why this is the case?
Because in terms of configuration they are identical to the Millennium seat 738s, they can be used completely at random with no consequences whatsoever - unlike the 763s which have multiple configurations - and so they are.
Good luck - so far, I haven't copped a Recaro/AVOD one, only the Millennium/overhead ones.
I believe the same seat is fitted to the new A330-200s used for domestic running, e.g. VH-EBV Kangaroo Island, which I flew on back in October on a SYD-MEL flight. The Economy seat is fantastic - miles ahead of the rubbish on the International A330s!
Qantas presently has 70 738s... (8 with Jetconnect).
All 8 Jetconnect aircraft have AVOD.
Of the remaining 62 - 38 without in non-BSI (one trial aircraft refreshed via Pr Amber), 6 with non-BSI, and another 18 with AVOD and BSI interior - so you have a 39% chance of AVOD on QF Domestic in Australia.
I suspect if anything they are more likely to be used on 'shorter' high yielding sectors (ie. golden triangle) so more people get to see them, particularly the 'CL' style decision makers that are important to Qantas.

The majority of these newer B737's operate from Perth and some seem to operate the golden triangle (MEL-SYD-BNE).

I was lucky enough to travel in one from SYD-MEL before Christmas last year. Extremely comfortable I must say.
