What planes are Japan Airlines using from Sydney to Tokyo given they have suspended the use of the 787. What business class seat does this route use?

At the moment- usually the 777-200ers, occasionaly a 777-330er but they are putting the 787 into service on SYD-NRT towards the end of the year, around October if i remember correctly.

FrequentFlyer,
I'm due to fly them. How do you rate the 772 and 773 in J?
I don't imagine they're using their new 77W on the NRT/SYD sector?

The 777-300ER has the new flashy fully flat bed (JAL Sky Suite 7), and the 777-200 has an angled flat seat (the old Shell, I think). The 777-300 also has an angled lie flat seat, I think. I'm not sure which aircraft will run on your specified date, so expect one of those.
