Word of caution, I flew China Eastern from singapore to Shanghai (on an old Shanghai AIrlines 767) last year and while it was a cheap enough I won't be rushing to repeat that flight. Unlike say a QF or NZ 767 there had been no attempt to modernise the cabin or put in new seats, there is only overhead IFE and the food served was very non-descript.
It probably makes a difference if you get some of the newer aircraft. Although having said that my friend flew SYD - CAN last year on a ?777, and despite the newish state of the aircraft he found the seating very cramped and the IFE was mostly chinese films. Between those two experiences, I would find it hard to travel with a chinese carrier any time soon. But if they offer a killer price it may be worthwhile for the experience. How to SQ, CX, QF etc. compare on price? QF fly SYD - PUD direct daily, and I would imagine that CX and SQ and even MH connections would be swift.

I have taken this flight and I strongly advise that you avoid it. Its serviced with a 20 year old 767 that feels and smells like everyone of those years. It was the worst international flights I have ever taken and like Dr T Ganguly said above no entertainment and the food is shocking.

The China Eastern planes are wet leased B767 from Shanghai Airlines. Used them last year, planes were old, no IFE just hand held units they were OK but no western movies but didnt bother me, FA are not up to standard.
