I've use my Velocity points to claim a reward seat in Economy from MEL-LAX and also from LAX-MEL in Business. Will I receive points and status credits from these 2 sectors?

Unfortunately you will not receive points or status credits for thoes two flights.

Generally for all frequent flyer programmes the world over, outright reward bookings are not mileage/point/status credit accruable.

just confirming what TRB said ,no points or status credits are earned on award flights .I wish they were.mybe one frequent flyer programe in the future may!!

Doesn't happen very often as far as I know but every now and then there are promotions which provide points for reward flights!
