MAH Lounges.

I'm travelling for the first time on Malaysia Airlines from SYD to KL to LHR in business, I am travelling alone and have QFF Platinum/OW Emerald. I can't find a review of the Malaysia Airlines lounge in KL and was wondering if any other readers had used it and if so, is there a seperate first class area/lounge for higher FF status customers? Any advice on MAH lounge in LHR would also be appreciated.

I read here recently that the MAH lounge in Sydney closed but would have used the QF lounge in preference anyway.

MH have a first class lounge. the last time i was there the renovations were not complete but it looked good. Nice dining room with not too bad food and good service. drinks not on display but available, individual sleeping area and good showers. QF platinum get to use this area which is alongside the business loungs in the satellite terminal.

will be using it myself in a few days. Enjoy

Wogan,

MH leaves LHR from Terminal 4 not Terminal 3. As such you will not be able to use the BA/QF lounge at Terminal 3. The First Class lounge for MH at Terminal 4 is apparently quite good. But I wouldn't expect it to be in the same league as the QF First lounges (I've not tried as I normally utilise T3 or T5 out of LHR)

The MH Lounge at KUL is OK ish. When I was last there over Christmas, the First Class lounge was closed for renovation. MH has instead cordoned off an area in their Golden Lounge (Business Lounge) for First, Enrich Platinum and OW Emeralds. Staff at the lounge are not that cluey but make the point that you're OWE and they will let you stay. The only advantage to the cordoned off area is that it is a little more cosy and by the window overlooking the tarmac. Food and beverage is still the same as that offered in the Golden Lounge, which is very very average - Do not expect the same standard as the QF First lounges.

I used the MH lounge in KLIA a couple of years ago travelling business to FRA.  I liked it, have read some reviewers on other sites say its not as good at QF and I'd agree but disagree at the same time.

Its (or was back then) different to the QF experience, and I liked that.  Overall I found the food a nice change, the staff were helpful, there were lots of places to sit.  I think there is now a seperate lounge for MH Enrich Platinum members, but dont know if that crosses over to OW.

Enjoy - we had a 8 hour wait and were given a room in the Pan Pacific Hotel (its outside KLIA, so you need to go through immigration), a shortish walk or you can catch the golf buggy.

As OWE now, the OP will likely have access. I haven't used the MH J or F lounge, as I actively avoided KUL (I was at the time PEN-based). I understand that it is a nice enough place to relax and have a bite while waiting - personally, I would lean towards sampling the local selections of food (but if you have a long-enough daylight transit, pop into town!).

The Pan Pacific is a nice enough hotel which can put together a reasonably good room service pizza, by Malaysian standards.

As an aside, the PanPac golf buggy is a hilarious experience and I highly recommend it.

Who needs booze when you have satay?

As above, the lounge is useable but nothing special.

+1 for golf buggy. The walkway is not air conditioned and so walking it with luggage in KL humidity = hot and sticky by the time you reach the hotel (it's called the Samo-Samo now)

It's hilarious when it's at full speed down the straight, not least because you're exposed and therefore subjected to a very cooling breeze as you whizz along.

I did the walk once. Never again - the buggy's the way to go, yeah, the buggy's the way to go!

I would agree that teh tarik is delicious with satay, roti prata and other such things, but I find they can be further elevated when accompanied by a crisp, refreshing ale...

I dare you to add a shot of your preferred spirit into a teh tarik.
