SQ 777’s - does anyone know if SQ has complied with Boeing Service Bulletin 777-35A0027? I have emailed them twice but no answer. The background is the Egypt Air 777 cockpit fire in early 2012, and which obviously MH370 may have experienced the same problem. I'm a FF not an aviation expert, but just Googled some of the source documents. The Egypt Air investigation was inconclusive, but one key suspect was the silicon flight crew oxygen hoses which had metal running through them for support. This may have caused a electrical current to flow, causing the fire which was then fed by the pure oxygen to get rapidly out of control. Boeing issued Service Bulletin 777-35A0027 advising airlines to replace the hoses. In the US, the FAA then made this a requirement through an FAA Airworthiness Directive for all the hoses to be changed within 18 months, I think by Feb 2014. United Airlines actually argued they should be allowed 24 months to do this, so would still be doing it if they had their way. The FAA only governs US airlines. So, it is not clear to me whether MH, SQ or for that matter VA have complied with the Boeing Service Bulletin, which at least the FAA felt should be mandatory within 18 months. I was booked on an SQ 777 but have now changed my flight. Mainstream media does not seem very good at reporting on these questions, wondering if anyone has had any perspectives on this issue?

Andrew I would suggest asking on a website which more closely covers the aviation side of the industry than AusBT.

Just to update, whilst it took over a week for the reply, SQ have confirmed that this important change has been made across their entire 777 fleet. So, I will be happily flying with them.
