Just booked my flight from SIN-SYD. Flying back to Aus 14 July on Qantas. Booked a PE seat but have requested an upgrade using 25000 points. Does anyone know if this route is a "popular business class route"? What are my odds of getting the upgrade? I'm being optimistic and thinking I might get it as business people would do their travelling on weekends to be in Aus on a Monday morning for meetings etc. Any ideas? Thanks and safe travels!
a common 'misconception' is that an airline's 'business class' is the 'domain' of 'business' people..especially on international flights... 'regular' people buy/fly J/C any day of the week...maybe even more on weekends!!
Not a popular business route as it was.Without knowing your status at QF i would look at FRI/SAT.They are loosing business big time on this route,so you should get the upgrade.
The best way to see if seats are available in business class for an upgrade is to go on line and try and buy as many seats in buisiness class for your flight as the system allows then reduce till it shows they are available ,this is the amount off seats available at the time .keep checking ,the more seats available for sale the greater your chance depending on your status platinum ,gold etc hope this helps, and good luck!
Thanks for this suggestion. Did a search on qantas website, max passangers per their search is 9, did a search for 9 and was able to book it. Will do this again closer to the date.
What you say is right on.However all QF phone sales/internet are not in an airport operations mode. They can not advise you of over sales as the do not see it on the screen.
I managed Premium Economy to Business upgrades both ways on this trip in late Feb when it was a 747.Seemed to have spare seats too. )out on a Thursday, back on Tuesday night). Not sure if they have changed to an A330 yet though as if so that may reduce seat availability.
Nice to here from the other Robert. You speak about a great challange that no person on this site talks about. And that is Qantas has reduced capacity on most all routes other than the US.A380/747 to A330 reduces your upgrde opportunities by 50%.
Robert I just had a look at my iteneary, it's a 747, hopefully I get the upgrade, if not, I'm happy enough with PE, anything beats an international trip in economy.,
thanks again everyone!

Hi Robert
Too true plus the fact that they don't have premium economy options on many routes now is really starting to limit choices.
