AA 757's only have reclining seating. If it was 767 you get angled lie-flat.
Depends if you see value or get good fares. If your flying before July, i would grab J-class as QFF Status credits are good earners on AA J-class, but will be slashed after then! All the best, and we await your decision!

CUN-DFW is 1030 miles so not as badly impacted.
But as CUN is an International destintation, I suspect the cabin will be sold us AA Business Class - and earn SCs in that class.

Most of my travel on AA is on domestic First Class. I personally like it. I've never been disappointed with the cabin service. If you're QFF the status credit earn rate will be the First class rate because your booking will be in A or F inventory. As such, some have suggested that it is good value for money - you're paying a Business class fare to earn status credits on a First Class rate.

What is the quality of the seat like on a non re-configured plane?
I've seen pictures and they look horrible

Cancun to Dallas you'll probably be flying in a non-flat bed seat. I don't believe it's any worse than a Qantas 737 business class seat.
If it was flat bed seat (the 757s they fly to Europe with) then it's considerably better. Although Cancun to Dallas is a relatively short flight. In my opinion a desire for a lie flat seat for such flights is decadent.

The seats are fine - much like Qantas / Virgin domestic Business seats, and much better than the old MD80s with their cracked leather

TheRealBabushka - note that Cancun is in Mexico, so I don't think this is a Domestic flight, so will be booked an earn as Business not First.
That said I agree with you that AA First is generally quite pleasant, with sizeable meals over their meal hours.
If you can get a First/Business fare for only a small premium over discount economy (eg. KUP/YUP fares), then definitely worthwhile in my book.

moa999, apologies. I stand corrected. Cancun to Dallas is offered in Business or Coach although for lounge access purposes, that sector is designated as "Domestic".
