Has anyone had any poor/good experiences with OptionTown via Air Asia X. I'm looking at upgrading my flight to Premium via OptionTown however not sure if it is the best thing to do? I already have paid for a seat in Economy, would I lose this if I take up OptionTown but my upgrade is unsuccessful?

I've used OptionTown before on AirAsia X with mixed sucesses.
What happens is you pay the OptionTown fee ($150 or so to KL) and you potentially could be bumped into the premium cabin. If you don't get bumped up to premium, your original economy ticket remains and you are refunded the fee. So you've got nothing to lose really, except for a $2 admin fee which they don't refund.
I've used it and been bumped into premium, but they emailed me a couple of hours before the flight, not 3-4 days like they claim in their advertising. I've also missed out on upgrades and had to fly in economy. My money was returned a week or so later.
OptionTown with AirAsia is becoming really popular, so the chances of being upgraded are dropping. But using it on Vietnam Airlines, I was upgraded every time without fail.

You've answered that perfectly S. Thanks for that. I paid for a seat in the first isle economy hence I was worried if my bid was unsuccessful.

I've had experiences largely similar to those described by S, although I've been fortunate enough to receive upgrade notification 2-3 days prior to flying. All in all a 3/4 success rate with D7. Best of luck!
