SIN check in for CX connecting to QF flight on separate PNR.

Hi guys,

I am flying from SIN-HKG with CX on one PNR and then connect to a QF flight back to SYD on another PNR. Do you know whether I will be able to get my boarding pass for the QF flight when I check in with CX? if they wont check me in, will they at least book my luggage through?

As a follow up question, what is the process in HKG to get a boarding pass issued for my QF flight if CX will not issue in SIN?

Thanks!

CX should be able to check your luggage through to SYD at the very least.

I would call CX and tell them that you would like to link the two PNR so that your Qantas flight is in the Cathay system. Provide them with your Qantas PNR and Qantas Ticket number (the number starting with 081, assuming the flight was ticketed by Qantas).

If this is done correctly, the CX check-in agent at SIN should be able to see your Qantas connection and if not, provide you with your Qantas boarding pass, at the very least check your baggage through.

I find of all the Oneworld carriers, Cathay is the one that does this well (American is the worse...perhaps it's a system issue?).

Again with these types of manual intervention your success depends entirely on the agent you get on the phone. If it's not successful, then try again. I seem to get better results when I call the Cathay US number. The agents seem better versed and understand what you're trying to do. The cost of the IDD call to me is worth the price for the peace of mind.

If you are not able to get a boarding pass from SIN, the CX transfer desk is easy to find and navigate. Assuming your bags are checked through to SYD, show the agent at the transfer desk your baggage tags when collecting your boarding pass so that they are able to trace your bags to the Qantas flight.

Thanks for the response, I am flying on a multi city booking which includes a flight on a QF code but on EK metal, will CX be able to link the two PNR's?

EK does not fly HKG-SYD only QF unless your going HKG-BKK-SYD with EK? If its CX metal SIN-HKG and QF metal HKG-SYD TRB's suggestion as above is right.

I did this recently flying on Cathay from LHR-HKG and then connecting onto QF from HKG-SYD.  At check-in I showed my mobile boarding pass for the QF flight to the check-in agent who after consulting her superior was happy to check it through to SYD.  They were unable to issue a boarding pass, so after arrival I took a transit train to the QF transit deks which are located close to a security clearance allowing you through to departures.  It's important you do this even if you have a boarding pass because it also means that QF can make sure your bag is loaded for the flight.  I had 6 hour transit so there was plenty of time for me - hopefully they can do the same for you.  Unfortuantely I can't remember where exactly the transfer desk is, but it wasn't hard to find after a bit of asking! Good luck!
