Where should I credit the points from an upcoming SQ business class flight from NZ to Europe? I am Gold Elite on Air New Zealand but dissatisfied with the programme and will requalify through domestic/TT travel anyway in the next year. Best to credit the points to SQ, Virgin, or another airline?

If you're travelling primarily domestic NZ and Australia, Velocity would be the way to go. Not least because in Aus/NZ, it gets you everything that Airpoints does, as well as some better benefits for domestic/TT travel on NZ (e.g. free baggage if you buy seat-only fares -- Velocity Gold gets that, NZ Gold Elite doesn't (WTF?)). I've just run the numbers, and for an SQ flight AKL-SIN-FRA, you'd get Velocity Gold upon return to NZ.
After that, if you keep using Velocity on your NZ flights and qualify for status that way, Aegean Airlines is the easiest way to get Star Alliance Gold, so that you can qualify for all of those important international lounges -- see http://www.ausbt.com.au/shortcut-to-star-alliance-gold-frequent-flyer-status
Hope this helps,

It does, thank you. Only issue is the Velocity requirement to have 4 qualifying flights - I'm not likely to rack up 4 Virgin flights anytime soon....

Velocity for sure if you are a member there. If you happen to have a Thai Royal Orchid Plus Membership you could put it there too FOR SQ that is.I would not recommend If you do a lot of Trans Tasman Flying on NZ joining them though. You would pay through the roof just to find fares to qualify for points which on the Virgin Australia offering you don't have to worry.
