Flying in J. Should I fly QF or EK metal? Both will be on QF code.
I'm only interested in flight and cabin experience. I've already considered flight times, lounge access, prices and FF earning potential and have assessed them to be immaterial to my decision making.
If the QF cabins have been retrofitted, this would be a no brainer but I dread the lousy entertainment on the ageing A330. On the flip side, I've always wanted a QF pyjama. Although on the other hand, I've not had an EK mezze plate in awhile.... I know #firstworldproblems!
But would love your insight.
P.S: Normally on this sector I fly QF in Y to use the lounge, being non-QFF OWE but work' paying this time around.
I picture a dedicated pyjama cupboard, stuffed to the gills, but for a single unadorned (and perhaps kangaroo shaped) coathanger silently waiting for that special day...
It is a comfy pyjama, and you'll only get to wear the mezze plate in extreme turbulence. I reckon it's more than just the entertainment that's lousy on the A330 though.
They certainly hand them out each way MEL - KUL so I'd say they do, the flight times are very similar. EK kits are a bit more generous IMHO then the last QF KIT I received. This youtube video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h9-vBLwCwJI (slowly) reveals it all, it's the same contents I received this month.
Your welcome TRB, yes QF code on EK metal still gets you EK administered chauffeur drive in Australia and SIN, they don't offer it to/from KUL however.
I noticed when I booked a couple of KUL trips last week it was now showing on the Manage My Booking page on the new QF site (before the upgrade it hasn't). But traditionally, I go to the EK site to Manage My Booking and use my Surname and QF booking Ref and complete my booking there, really easy :-)
I usually take QF when I can, I travel MEL - KUL in J frequently on EK's 77W and It gets my vote over the QF A333 until it's refurbishment is complete. The two row mini J cabin in front of door 2 is my pick for a more quiet and private experience, food isn't the QF standard but isn't bad either.
Considering you've ticked off points, prices, lounges and times the IFE would sway me if you don't plan on sleeping the time away if you do the pick QF for the PJ's, goes without saying but avoid that middle J seat on EK's 77W :-)

LOL!!!!
The content of my cupboard is mind boggling...
But you've reminded me of something... What are the EK amenity kits like? Do they give them out on the short hop to Singapore?

Thanks Ryan. Do QF coded flights operated by EK on the MEL/KUL and MEL/SIN sectors get the EK administered chauffeur drive service?

Hey Ryan,
Do you know the method of booking the EK administered chauffeur service when you're booked on a QF code?
Do you call EK's call centre and arrange the pick up?
