Good afternoon everyone. I am considering going to Toronto next year to visit a mate. Am looking at my travel options and would appreciate any input/advise. I'm a QFF, silver, with about 60k points at the moment, but believe I will get to about 100k before the end of the year. I'm not a member of any other airlines - as such, Qantas / Oneworld airlines are my preferred airlines. I've had a quick look at flights this morning and have come across a pretty good deal ( I reckon anyway - but I could be wrong - which is where you guys come in!). As it'll be quite a long flight, business class is preferred. I can book a flight on Cathay - business class on their 777's. flying Tokyo - Hong Kong - Toronto (return) in business class for $3000 (including all taxes and surcharges). So I'd just need to get from Australia to Tokyo. As the flight is only about 7 hours from Cairns, I'm willing to fly either PE (from Sydney/Brisbane/Melb) or Jetstar Business class (from Cairns). this will be around $2000. I can just use my points on either of my flights and this will just reduce the actual cost. in total - I get a round trip to Toronto in business/PE for about $5000. The important thing is that my flight from Tokyo - Toronto is business class as this is the long flight.
Ps - I used 3 July 2015 - 24 July 2015 for the Cathay booking and 2 June 2015 - 24 June 2015 for the Jetstar flight (July flights not yet available).
Does anyone else have any better suggestions/options for this proposed trip for approximately the same costs?
As always - thanks for any advise /input/tips/suggestions.
You can fly QF SYD to NRT PE return for $2,280 on those dates provided, booking in T inventory. As at 1.30pm AEST on 9 Aug, there are at least 9 seats on QF 21 and QF 22 respectively.
Paying $280 more to fly PE on QF is in my opinion a far better prospect than fly JQ!
Nothing wrong with JQ business seats – IMHO they better then QF PE ones. Food is another story, but I rather would not eat at all and have better seats. Anyway I would choose JQ bis over QF PE anytime – flew few times MEL-BKK and will do it again without any hesitation. BKK-MEL is not that great because night flight and I rather burn my points on QF biz.
aaflyer is correct, flying that route costs essentially double than the scenario I described. Flying HK- Toronto is $5000 business class, however doing the same trip via Tokyo is about $2000 cheaper. I'll happily fly the 4 hour trip to HK via Tokyo in business class and spend the 2 hour layover in the lounge in HK to save $2000.
