Turkish Airlines Sydney to Istanbul non stop 18 hour flight in 2015...
Late last year I read somewhere that Turkish Airlines had conducted surveys to see if people would be interested in such a flight, and then heard nothing since.
Is flying 18 hours straight even possible? Would you find it convenient?

Before it was cancelled, I flew the 18hr LAX - SIN nonstop on their A350. For weight and general comfort reasons, it was an all-business class configuration. It was a long time to spend on a plane; after a full dinner and 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep, I still had around 6 hours of flight left to sit on. I still preferred it to connecting, though, and ultimately when you can sleep I'd prefer to just go direct.
In economy, it'd be a different story.

I always wondered why there were no direct flights from Singapore to the USA. Stupidly I thought it would be about 14hours or so. Didn't realise it was close to 20.

It was on their A340-500, but yes, you'd need to be a masochist to subject yourself to a nonstop SIN-America flight. (SQ does have direct flights, but they are one-stop, e.g. SIN-FRA-JFK, SIN-HKG-SFO.)

Sadly I never had the opportunity to experience those flights before they were discontinued but being an avgeek few things would give me greater pleasure than spending 20+ hours with SQ's excellent J product.

Watson, i certainly wouldn't call myself masochistic! It was a really nice flight.
I agree eminere, SQ's J product is my favourite of the ones I've tried

Sorry, the masochist comment was supposed to only refer to doing it in Economy!
