With the new timetable to the US effective in the new year, I notice that the SC haul for a PE return flight SYD-JFK via LAX reduces from 280 to 260 with the scrapping of QF107/108. As Qantas is clearly now looking at this new flight arrangement as 4 separate sectors to arrive at the reduced total of SCs, I wonder if the upside is 4 'eligible sectors' to count towards maintaining current Gold status? You would really have to think so! (I am annoyed at losing 20 SCs for a booking I made well in advance of the announcement).

With the change in flight numbers from SYD to LAX (QF 107/108) to (QF 11/12 & 17/18) this wily be considered as 4 sectors when the flight numbers change.  If you booked the flight prior to late March 2014 then the old SC would apply.

I will keep my eye on that, thanks!  I know 20 SCs is not much, but plans for travel in my next membership year bring me to the magic 600 SCs to retain Gold if I get the 280 on SYD-JFK. The 4 eligible sector thing is not an issue at all for the next year, but may be handy later on.

You should be able to get the original routing status credits upon request, assuming that your itinerary changed from QF107 to QF17 & QF15 and from QF108 to QF16 & QF18. You'll just need to request them through the Frequent Flyer contact centre.

However, being Brisbane I do like this compensation of extra SCs for not having a First lounge to readily access.
