REX Regional Express loyalty program 'Rex Flyer'
Hello All, I've recently found myself flying on rex to some regional destinations. Depending on the route, Qlink is preference, but schedules often limit rex as being the only option.
It would be good if they had Frequent Flyer program or partner. I'd be glad of others comments......Do you think Rex will ever re-launch their Rex Flyer program?

I also have the 'pleasure' of travelling frequently with Rex. One of the many annoying things about them is the RexFlyer program being cancelled. I think they blamed the carbon tax for this, and with the recent Govt changes and the carbon tax now gone I really really think they need to reintroduce a frequent flyer scheme. Their fares are excessive in the extreme on occasion and service is tea and biscuit and the planes are older than me I am pretty sure. Anyway I could rant on about Rex for many hours but I agree that they need some form of loyalty program. I have spent a small fortune with them over past 3 years. Well into the 6 figures......

The old Regional Express scheme didn't work very well because quite simply, it was too simple. It simply stipulated how many flights you needed to fly to earn a free flight (which was equivalent to an anytime award voucher). It was a cross between a coffee card at your local cafe and a TravelTen on State Transit Authority buses.
In any case, what would points be useful for with Regional Express? A program wouldn't be all that worthwhile, not for points anyway, because there are no premium cabins to upgrade to or redeem for, no partners to redeem on, no daylight robbery online store, etc. etc. Unless they were to hitch themselves to either Velocity or Qantas Frequent Flyer, orphan points earned with Regional Express would be worthless. The only way for points to be worth anything is for them to be convertible to something else, because a classic award system isn't going to work for a regional carrier.
If we're talking about a standalone loyalty scheme, I think what you really want here is a Regional Express program with only status credits (i.e. no points). Status earned on Regional Express would probably offer access to their lounges in Sydney and Adelaide, preferential seat selection, priority baggage and check-in, and maybe extra biscuits. Free flights could still be handed out by awarding vouchers with status tier qualification, limiting the real gifts to passengers who are really worth chasing.
This scheme would see you get the recognition for spending money with them, but they won't bleed money like they used to.

I agree with watson374 100%. Points alone would probably be useless but a status scheme which would allow lounge access in Sydney and Adelaide would be nice. I think the Mel lounge is closed for renovations or shut indefinitely.?. Yeah just a little bit of recognition would be nice but I suppose they are only a small regional carrier and you cannot really compare them to QF or VA. Extra biscuits would not go astray either.....but yeah does anyone ever think any possible partnership with VA or QF is even a remote possibility?
