Does anyone know what fare bucket(s) an economy oneworld explorer fare booked through qantas would be in? I'm trying to work out potential earn vs cost for a rtw vs discount economy return fare adl to JFK and LHR. With qantas' current early bird special, using return tickets vs rtw might be a better option.

I believe it's L-class for economy, but do double-check.

Correct.
Thye are known as LONEx, DONEx, and AONEx (and some now IONEx's) - first letter is the fare bucket code.

If your entire travel is ADL/SYD-JFK-LHR and return to ADL, you may be better off at the moment by buying a SYD-JFK QF special, then an add-on JFK-LHR return with BA, AA or a Star Alliance member if you are not chasing points with OW. This will not be a rtw, and will in fact be backtracking. I did the opposite earlier this year, and went SYD-HKG-LHR in PE with CX (don't bother wasting your money on PE with Cathay IMO!), BA from LHR-JFK on separate ticket, and backtracked all the way. It's a matter of personal preference I suppose, but it saved me a LOT of money!

Thanks all for the info, very helpful. Good to know re cathay's premium as I was considering at least one leg in premium cabin. Qantas' double points deal is pretty attractive at the moment.
