Flying from Melbourne to LA with Air New Zealand: KrisFlyer or Velocity?

I'm Plat with VA, mostly from MEL to LAX. With loss of that route, I'm flying MEL - SFO with AirNZ mostly. With the new points transfers, am I better off switching to KrisFlyer and levelling up in Star Alliance? I fly PE, not business, so it looks like I'll get no extra points earn compared to economy.

We don't know the points conversion rate yet between Krisflyer and Velocity (or do we? Have I missed something? Sorry if yes)

If you would earn more Velocity points by crediting to Krisflyer and then transferring across to Velocity later then yes, it also depends how much you value your VA Plat status domestically. If you level up to *A Gold you'll get your Air NZ lounge access regardless, but if you lose your VA status eventually but also travel domestically in Australia on VA in economy, A* Gold wont help.

Either way, depending on your circumstances I would wait and see what the point conversion ratio is going to be.

Actually scrap that.. Krisflyer Gold members get VA lounge access domesitcally don't they...

Oh well I guess its down to points then.
