I'm meeting a friend in the lounge for dinner on Friday night who has a Halal diet. We're just interested in whether or not the VA lounge is Halal certified. Otherwise, he's usually happy with vegetarian options. He called them and they said they would send some information, but they didn't.
Afraid not. None of VA lounges have provisions for that. A proper seggregation would just mean having to dispose completly of all pork dishes that are staple.
Yes, friend is Muslim. I've invided him to the lounge as my guest as thanks for dropping me off at the airport. He's done it before and had the salad and pasta, but wanted to know if the meat (apart from pig of course) came from a certified source. I guess we'll just find out when we get there.
Yes, this is true. Perth is the oldest and most tired looking of all the lounges I've visited, but he's giving me a lift to the airport, it's free, and he's done it before so he doesn't mind. I'm sure the one in the new pier will be the same standard as the others.
Turns out my friend couldn't make it. Now that I'm here I can see it's probably for the best. Dinner today is "fun sized" meat pies and DIY toasted sandwiches. For some reason I had higher expectations.

If the friend is Muslim, (most likely), best option, if at all possible, is to have something outside the airport confines.
Pork is everywhere in the VA lounge, if not ham, but other products might have pork products in them.
Even taking the vegetarian, does not mean the thongs have not been used to handle other foods.
I have done MEL, SYD, ADL and PER VA dom lounges, and its all, as mentioned above, no choice of a Halal meal. VA does not have int lounges.

The Perth VA lounge isn't exactly somewhere you'd take a guest for dinner. The food's pretty slim pickings there at the best of times!
Hopefully this changes when they move into the Pier
