Santiago Airport Hotel Hi All, any recommendations for a decent mid range hotel near Satiago airport, booking an overnight for my inlaws on their way home.

Santiago (Chile) airport has a very fine hotel onsite, actually on of the better airport hotels - just cross the road when you exit the terminal - Holiday Inn.

Stayed the 2 years ago, very handy and the restaurant was quite good as well.

Hi PNG

As a regular traveller to Chile and South America in general the Holiday Inn across the road from the terminal is a great start. Sign up for their reward program as well because you can quicky gain status with all IHG branded hotels.

If they have time a taxi to the central markets in Satiago will cost about CLP15000 which is about $30. I always look for a well dressed older driver waiting further away from the door of the terminal. The taxi rates are usually fixed to different sectors (suburbs) in Santiago from the airport. Some drivers will actually wait for you or even offer to escort you through the markets which in itself can be be a good thing. Ensure you keep your wallet in your front pocket ;)

If you have any other questions feel free to ask me and I will try to assist. I do have the contact for a professional driver I use sometimes who will meet your inlaws and take them wherever they wish to visit. He has credit card facilities in his vehicle which can be an advatage sometimes.

Seriously consider getting a private hire car.  Though more expensive than a cab, they are far safer.  My experience was getting a cab from SCL to downtown, and the speed of the driver was close to frightening.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn two weeks ago. It is a beautifully designed modern building 5 minutes walk from the baggage carousels. It has a great pool and spa to unwind, the restaurant is pretty good and staff are friendly and efficient and can speak english. Rooms are super quiet and comfy.

Santiago is a great city well worth a visit if you have the time. Just a shame Australians have to pay a ridiculous $120 'reciprocity' tax for a stay. This is pay back for our departure tax we charge at Australian airports. Only Australians, Americans, Canadians and I think Costa Ricans have to pay it.
