Can anyone recommend a good Bangkok car service from BKK to a city centre hotel? Arriving in the evening and would like to have it pre booked.

Your hotel should be able to offer you a pick up service. The fee will be charged to your hotel bill, which will enable you to earn points if you're part of a loyalty scheme with the hotel.
While the cost is more expensive than the average Bangkok metered taxi fare, it is not much more expensive than the cost of a metered taxi fare from a CBD in Australia to the airport.

Agree! Book via your hotel - much easier and if you have hotel loyalty membership - then its a win win and earn more points!
We had our hotel (The Peninsula) in BKK pick us up and was so easy - NO stress. Charged back to the room. Even booked return to the airport - where they carry your bags to the check-in and show us where the lounges are. Little bit more but after flying 9 hours - I was happy to use the service and tip the driver for playing Barbra Streisand all the way to the hotel (approx 45 mins).. Also allow for peak hour traffic - as it does crawl - so that's when its good to be handed a bottle of cold water and a hand towel...

I travel to Bangkok several times a year and used to use the hotel cars, but now I find the AOT (Airports of Thailand) cars cheaper and just as good. They have kiosks throughout the arrivals hall near the baggage carousel and are very efficient. No need to book ahead - I usually book my trip while I wait for my suitcase.
Also, Uber has just started in Bangkok so may be worth a try.
