Hi, I have a question on how to avail of the oneworld sapphire free baggage allowance. So situation is I am gold status with Qantas FF and have only recently joined American Airlines FF program. I have booked a domestic flight from NYC to Chicago with no free baggage included (I used AA FF program instead of QFF). I would like to know if I can still avail of the free baggage given I am a oneworld sapphire member, and how? or is this not the way it works.. Thank you so much!!

richard,
Append you QFF number in your booking with AA. The AA system and the agent at check in would recognise your Sapphire status and offer you the necessary perks, including free checked baggage and lounge access (as a Aadvantage Platinum i.e. OW Sapphire, you will not be able to access the Admirals Club lounge on a US domestic flight).
Once inside the lounge, approach the desk and get them to change the frequent flyer number on your boarding pass. A new boarding pass will be issued reflecting your Aadvantage number. This will allow you to earn Aadvantage miles and EQM/EQP.

I haven't checked for a while, but your QFF status also means anyone else travelling on your booking also gets free baggage.....had a fun experience with AA in Washington a few years ago when me & 7 of my closest friends turned up requesting free baggage...a quick reference to the oneworld benefits on the AA website & we were on our way with a saving of USD200. I believe there is a cap (10 pax???) & they need to be on your booking, but a good way to save your buddies a bit of coin.
