Flying Melbourne to Auckland: which airline should I choose?

Hi there! I will be flying from Melbourne to Auckland later this year and wondering what airline, I recently went there on Emirates and this time looking to try another airline. Please help and many thanks!

What time of day are you looking to fly, and in what class (Economy, Business etc)?

I find Emirates one of the best options for flying Trans-Tasman, but if you're looking for another airline I really like the Air NZ 777 Business Class lie-flat seat. Less good if you're stuck back in Economy, in which case i'd probably go for Qantas or stick with Emirates. Also depends how much you want to pay...

Do you have lounge access?

Unfortunately I am only on Economy. And I am not a Frequent Flyer so I guess I am not getting into any lounge.

I would fly Air NZ then.

I think they're quite good for the bog standard traveller. The inflight entertainment is superior and the food is not too bad.

I believe the timing and frequency of their flights are also a tad more desirable.

I last flew to NZ with Air NZ on the 787 (in economy) and thought it was a great flight. Very comfortable seat, great entertainment options and decent food. I wouldn't hesitate to fly them again.

Personally, if choosing between Qantas and Emirates economy, I'd choose Emirates. You'll get the Airbus A380, as opposed to the single aisle Boeing 737 on Qantas's subsiduary, Jet Connect. Avoid the Air NZ 777 in economy, 10 abreast is a squeeze. Seat width on VA 737's and JQ's A320's isn't much better.

For economy, Air NZ is by far the best offering. I have flown many times in both their A320, 777-300, 777-200 and 767 and all have been fantastic.
