Travelling overseas in September, early am flight with the family, and we live 300 kms from Melbourne. Looking for an overnight hotel where I can then leave the car for the holidays ( 10 days) and which will shuttle me to the terminal. We would need 2 rooms ( kids 2 and 5!). Thanks for your advice.
Hi - I don't think this is likely. Option might be stay at Holiday Inn or Parkroyal - then first thing in the morning - move your car to long term park at Tulla and check-in once you catch the bus from parking to T2. Parkroyal is pricey though. Another option is I think Mantra is nearby with cheap parking nearby also. Quest opened recently also - so you might be able to get a 2 bedroom apartment, check out early then head to Long Term park?
You could probably find an "airport" hotel which is really in an adjacent residential suburb where you can park on the street for ten days, but which nonetheless has a shuttle bus.
For instance the Best Western Airport Motel is actually in the nearby suburb of Attwood and not super close to the airport but it has a shuttle bus. A quick google streetview suggests unrestricted parking nearby, but I can't guarantee it.

Not so much free, but the Holiday Inn has a rate that includes 7 days parking, and then any additional days at $15 per day.
