I am flying BNE to HK in (S) economy, I will be offered the new upgrade bid, anyone used there pints and cash as yet successfully?

How much you should I offer in the ways of points and cash, seeing a standard straight out upgrade is 40k in points.

Any ideas ....

My understanding of the bid system is that it is to be offered to selected members by invitation only around a week from departure.
